How to play Northgard Battlegrounds

The full match loop: rounds, seasons, the structure shop, Threads of Fate, villagers, battles and how you win, taken from the game's own data and tutorial.

Winning a match

In any game, victory is earned by winning 10 PvP battles before you lose 5 lives.

Battles against other players are asynchronous: you fight a snapshot of another player's settlement, and the fight plays out automatically.

A round, step by step

1. Income. At the start of each round, you will receive income in Kröwns and Lore from your Banner Hall and other structures.

2. Build. Use your Kröwns to purchase structures. Your Banner Hall produces some Kröwns every round. Structures must be placed on an empty tile you have colonized. Colonized tiles have a colored border.

3. Threads of Fate. Specialize your settlement by spending Lore on powerful boons. Runes apply to a single structure, increasing the power of any units they deploy. Blessings are passive abilities that apply to your entire settlement. Gifts are immediate rewards of villagers, resources or structures.

4. Battle. The battle is fought automatically by your warriors. Sit back and enjoy the fight! After each battle, each structure will display its contribution to the fight in damage and kills. Adjust your layout accordingly to see if you can improve your damage output!

Villagers

Use them to colonize new tiles to grow your territory.

Or add them to warcamps, where they become soldiers and fight in battle!

A villager costs 4 Kröwns and each one you buy raises the price by 3. The shop offers 1 villager per shop phase.

Placement and synergies

Many structures are stronger if they are placed in certain locations or arrangements.

For example, the Mine only produces Kröwns if it is placed on a Rocky tile.

Almost every structure buffs adjacent structures with specific tags, or gains a bonus on a specific terrain tile. Each structure page lists its synergies, and each tag page lists everything that boosts that tag.

Upgrading and selling

Structures can be upgraded by combining a structure with another structure of the same type from the store.

Any units attached to the structure also grow in strength during an upgrade! Structures can be upgraded up to level 3.

You can sell a structure by picking it up and dragging it into the sell zone at the bottom of the screen.

Sold structures will return some Kröwns and all of the Villagers you placed in it!

Seasons and wild encounters

Every 4 rounds, the season changes. As time progresses, rarer structures and more powerful foes will appear.

At the start of each season your clan will grow in strength, allowing you to improve a clan skill or your Banner Hall.

At the start of each season, your first battle will always be a PvE battle against Northgard’s denizens.

These battles don’t award you Victories or risk your Lives, but you can earn Kröwns from them.
